Columbia Students for Justice in Palestine has been banned from Instagram by Meta

Columbia University Students for Justice in Palestine has been banned from Instagram by its parent company, Meta.

“As the school year is about to begin, Columbia SJP has been permanently banned from Instagram,” the group wrote on the social media platform, X. “Our account was permanently deleted at 124,000 followers at the same time as our backup and when we made a new page it was deleted within 2 days.”

Users on X asked if the group was given a reason why their account was suspended.

The group Justice in Palestine posted a screenshot on Instagram saying their account violated community guidelines.

“No reason was given,” they wrote. “We just can’t ask for another review. The same thing happened to Within our Lifetime months ago and I still can’t make an Instagram page without it being taken down within hours.”

They are not allowed to request another review of the decision that was taken to suspend.

Pro-Palestinian groups have staged protests for much of the past year amid the Israel-Hamas war in the Middle East.
