Entire Mollywood Responds: Mohanlal on Hema panel report

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: malayalam film industry it’s going through a “huge crisis” and it’s unfair to blame Association of Malayalam Film Artistes alone as there are 21 such forums, actor Mohanlal said on Saturday in his first reaction to allegations of harassment after the publication of the Hema Committee report.
Speaking after the inauguration of the Kerala Cricket League, Mohanlal stated that he was not part of any “power group” nor was he aware of such groups. He argued that the entire film industry should be held accountable for the issues raised in the report.
“Films are just a part of society and all sectors have such problems. The Hema Committee report is welcome. I submitted it to him (the committee) as a actor and producer. I told them what I know,” said Mohanlal.
The actor pointed out that BUT it had no union features and was like a family founded to help artists. “I resigned as president of AMMA because I found its executive committee and was blamed for everything, when the entire Malayalam film industry is responding,” he said.
Claiming he did not have “all the answers”, Mohanlal expressed fears that the industry, which employed thousands of people, could collapse. “I don’t have a yes or no answer.” Please don’t just blame us. There is a system, a government, police and courts. My opinion is that anyone who has made a mistake should be punished,” he said. At the same time, he indicated that it was time to “start a cleanup” and “move things forward for a better future.” “Let’s start with the Malayalam industry. This is a crisis. There is a need to rebuild the industry.”
The actor fought for an association to represent junior artists – many of whom claimed harassment after the report was published.
