Pedro Porro and Manor Solomon react as Giovani Lo Celso swaps Tottenham for Real Betis

Tottenham Hotspur have had a fruitful summer on the transfer front, making a number of exciting signings for both the present and the future.

Spurs have signed Dominic Solanke to bolster their attacking ranks, the first number 9 they have recruited since the departure of Harry Kane.

Tottenham have also signed a number of talented youngsters, with Archie Gray, Wilson Odobert, Yang Min-hyuk and Lucas Bergvall now all on the N17 book.

Ange Postecoglou has also tried to streamline his squad and as such there have been multiple departures from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The most recent of these came late on transfer deadline day, with Spurs selling Giovani Lo Celso to Real Betis, the club who sold him to the Lilywhites in 2019.

According to Marca, Tottenham received €5m for Lo Celso, a 50% sell-on clause and first refusal for Johnny Cardoso.

Pedro Porro, Manor Solomon and Bryan Gil wish Giovani Lo Celso well as he swaps Tottenham for Real Betis

The Argentina international took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message for Spurs and fans, receiving praise from supporters and colleagues.

“Forever grateful to all the Spurs staff, coaches and teammates with whom I have shared these wonderful years and of course the fans who have never stopped supporting me,” he wrote.

“You have been a great support to me and the reason why I gave my all for this badge. I will always carry you in my heart.”

Manor Solomon and Bryan Gil were among those who paid tribute to Lo Celso following his departure from Tottenham.

Solomon wrote “all the best girlfriends”, while Gil wrote in Spanish: “You deserve to be a happy friend, good luck!”

Lo Celso also had a post for Betis fans with the caption: ‘The paths were destined to meet again! Happy to be here again.”

Pedro Porro was among the players who responded to this latest post, saying: “All the best bros! Let’s go with everything.”

The likes of Angel Di Maria and Marc Bartra wished Lo Celso well in the comments.

Tottenham and Lo Celso just don’t have to be

Lo Celso has had mixed opinions throughout his Spurs career. For one reason or another, his career at Tottenham never really took off.

However, he is highly regarded in Spain and Argentina, for whom he plays regularly.

He has won two Copa America trophies and would have been in the 2022 World Cup winning squad had he not been injured.

It’s good to see Lo Celso finally leaving Spurs, who in turn could be in for a nice payday – as well as early knocks for Cardoso – in the future.
