Comments requested on the Avista cost adjustment application

Public comment is being sought on Avista Utilities’ energy cost adjustment request for its electric service.

Avista is proposing a rate adjustment of 0.205 cents per kilowatt-hour. If approved, about $6.6 million would be refunded to customers starting Oct. 1.

Avista officials said the reduction came from lower-than-expected energy supply costs due to lower wholesale electricity and natural gas prices.

Electricity cost adjustments are used to track changes in revenues and costs associated with variations in hydroelectric production, secondary prices, thermal fuel costs, and changes in electricity contract revenues and expenses.

If the Idaho Public Utilities Commission approves the request, about $6.6 million will be refunded to customers starting Oct. 1. Avista officials said the discount is the result of lower energy supply costs than are included in retail rates because of the wholesale and natural electric discount. gas prices.
