Fond du Lac Bishop Matthew Gunter to be installed as Episcopal bishop of Wisconsin

(WLUK) — A northeast Wisconsin bishop will soon be installed as bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Wisconsin.

Rt. The Rev. Matthew Gunter currently serves as bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Fond du Lac, one of the state’s three Episcopal dioceses.

In 2021, the dioceses of Eau Claire, Fond du Lac, and Milwaukee began the process of reuniting as one diocese in Wisconsin. At a special joint convention in May, the trio officially voted to join as one, and in June, the 81st General Convention of the Episcopal Church voted to approve the reunion.

Bishop Gunter’s installation service as Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Wisconsin will be held on October 5 in Stevens Point. It will be part of the first Convention of the Diocese of Wisconsin, organized since the reunification of the three dioceses.

Prior to his role in Fond du Lac, Bishop Gunter served as interim bishop of Eau Claire and assistant bishop in Milwaukee during his leadership transition. He was consecrated bishop on April 26, 2014.

The combined Episcopal Diocese of Wisconsin includes more than 100 congregations and ministries and more than 11,500 baptized members.
