Seattle Mariners fans and personalities react to the possible firing of manager Scott S

After a disastrous two-month stretch that dropped them to 5.0 games in the American League West, the Seattle Mariners were reportedly scheduled to fire longtime manager Scott Servais on Thursday afternoon.

Servais, who was in his ninth year on the job, led the M’s to a 64-64 record this year. It only took them to the playoffs once, in 2022.

Once the initial report came out from “The Athletic’s” Ken Rosenthal, some of your favorite Mariners bloggers/podcasters/personalities all started discussing the news on social media. Here’s a compilation of some of the best or most interesting.

For @MarinerMuse:

At his best, Scott Servais was the best man manager the Mariners have ever had in that role. It’s a disappointment that it has come to this point.

According to Stacy Jo Rost of Seattle Sports 710:

The joy with which some call for a coach’s job is always terrible. But love for a team is passionate, I understand. Consequences follow failure and sometimes change is needed. What I will never understand is holding one person responsible for what is clearly a much bigger problem.

From Ty Dane Gonzalez of “Locked on Mariners”:

really bad things have come to this point

From Ben Ranieri of “Sea Level:”

You feel terrible for Scott Servais. His clubs have always responded very well to adversity and it just hasn’t happened this year due largely to a lack of talent IMO. I’ve made the most of some weak rosters over the years and given this franchise 9 years, including a drought that I will remember forever. The second best manager in the club’s history

Sometimes difficult decisions are required and the organization is in a turbulent place right now. However, I argue that he couldn’t do much this year. Hoping for the best for Scott and his family

From Colin O’Keefe, who used to work with the Mariners and was the producer of the “Wheelhouse” podcast:

Phew.

Man, I really loved Scott Servais.

And according to Fangraphs’ Meg Rowley:

Servais appears to be well-respected on a club that has often been openly unhappy with the front office. If you want to make the argument the team needs to clean up at the senior levels, fine I guess, but if Servais leaves and Dipoto stays…yeesh imo.
