Ozarks Tech names automotive lab for Springfield Nissan Kia after donation

Another Springfield-area business has stepped up to help Ozarks Technical Community College’s automotive technology program.

Springfield Nissan Kia recently made a six-figure donation — the exact amount was not disclosed — to become the college’s newest automotive and transportation partner.

A naming ceremony to celebrate the partnership was held on August 20.

John Widiger, managing partner at Springfield Nissan Kia, said the partnership makes sense because of the important role Ozarks Tech plays in developing the next generation of automotive workers.

“Whether it’s service, parts, sales or auto body, this industry gives individuals the opportunity to support their families and prosper financially,” Widiger said in a news release. “We are happy to support everything OTC is doing to help spread the word. these opportunities for success.”

Along with Springfield Nissan Kia, area businesses that support the program help the college provide cutting-edge technology and help students who face non-academic barriers.

Gabe McLaughlin, chair of the automotive technology department at Ozarks Tech, said support makes a difference.

“Issues related to child care, transportation and food insecurity can have a large impact on student success, and we are grateful that this contribution from Springfield Nissan Kia will help students complete their degree or certificate and find valuable employment opportunities in the industry transportation,” he said in the statement.

The department offers programs in automotive repair, automotive technology, and diesel technology. Programs can be tailored to help students acquire specialized skills for the jobs they want.
