Douglas County SWAT Team Arrests 2 Suspects in Utah Homicide

The Douglas County SWAT team located and arrested two people suspected of committing a homicide in Utah.

Shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday, the county’s SWAT team went to a residence located in Omaha’s Dundee neighborhood near the intersection of 48th and Cuming streets, according to a news release from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office acted on a tip from Utah’s West Valley Police Department that an 18-year-old man named Mare Biel and a 16-year-old boy were believed to be in the Omaha area. Biel and the 16-year-old are suspected of first-degree murder.

West Valley City is a suburb of Salt Lake City.

After locating Biel and the boy at a residence in the Dundee neighborhood, Douglas County SWAT, along with the assistance of an Omaha Police Department SWAT team and the US Marshals Service, executed search and arrest warrants for Biel and the boy for 16 years. The sheriff’s office said Biel and the boy were taken into custody inside the residence without incident.

In addition to first-degree murder, Biel and the boy were also arrested on suspicion of felony discharge of a firearm resulting in bodily injury and discharging a firearm.

Law enforcement officials said Biel was taken to the Douglas County Jail. The 16-year-old boy was taken to the Douglas County Youth Center.

Information about the alleged homicide in Utah was not immediately available. A representative for the West Valley Police Department did not immediately respond to a voicemail and a message seeking comment.
