Paradis Shop ‘n Save is hosting a watermelon eating contest amid a grand re-opening

BREWER, Maine (WABI) – As the Paradis Shop ‘n Save in Brewer held its grand re-opening, there was also an eventful day.

This included a watermelon eating contest with four different age groups and prizes.

Some children cleared up to 16 slices in just three minutes.

While most were excited before the event, many were quite full or even a little embarrassed afterwards.

“After you eat that much watermelon, your lips start to get really numb and cold, and your teeth get really cold, and so do your gums. It just hurts,” said Kendyl, who competed in the pageant.

“Easy! I told you I was going to win! The five kids can’t do that, I can do that. Ahhhh!” said contest winner Cody as he flexed his muscles.

The grand reopening also included raffles, wine tastings, as well as a touch-a-truck with the Brewer Fire Department.
