State Superintendent Walters addresses federal funding, teacher certifications during State Board meeting

The Oklahoma State Board of Education is scheduled to meet Thursday morning as the Oklahoma State Department of Education and state Superintendent Ryan Walters face questions about school funding.

On Wednesday, Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond said Oklahoma lawmakers are authorized to attend executive sessions of every state agency, board and commission. Following Drummond’s opinion, Thursday’s agenda includes not only lawmakers’ access to executive sessions, but also the possible revocation of a dozen teaching certificates.

Tulsa Public Schools will provide their monthly update. It’s been a year since former TPS Superintendent Deborah Gist resigned over concerns about the district’s accreditation.
