Iowa assistant Kirk Ferentz suspended for Hawkeyes’ season opener

IOWA CITY – Two Iowa coaches, including head coach Kirk Ferentz, will miss the Hawkeyes’ season opener next week after receiving one-game suspensions.

First reported by Scott Dochterman of The Athletic, Ferentz and Iowa wide receivers coach Jon Budmayr were suspended for recruiting violations stemming from the Hawkeyes’ acquisition of quarterback Cade McNamara via the transfer portal.

Ferentz will address the media Thursday at 1:30 PM CT in a press conference regarding the suspension.

McNamara transferred to Iowa after spending three seasons at Michigan from 2020 to 2022.

Iowa hosts Illinois State in the season opener on Saturday, August 31st at 11am
