Fargo Post 2 ends pool play with decisive win at American Legion World Series – InForum

SHELBY, NC — Far from exhausted after a 14-inning, six-hour ordeal the day before, the Fargo Post 2 baseball team drew energy from a marathon victory that ended just hours earlier Saturday morning at American Legion World Series.

No. 2 jumped out to a four-run lead in the first inning against Hudson (Mass.) and rode that momentum to a 12-3 victory Saturday afternoon at Keeter Stadium.

Post 2 finished 2-1 in group play after Saturday’s win and are in position to secure a place in the final four teams fighting for the championship. Station 2 does not play on Sunday.

The winners and runners-up from the four-team Stars and Stripes groups play in the semi-finals on Monday, with the semi-final winners playing for the title at 6pm on Tuesday 20 August.

League City (Texas), which defeated Post 2 in the opener Thursday, is 2-0 in the Stars bracket and completes bracket play against Troy (Ala.) 1-1 on Sunday. Post 2 defeated Troy 5-4 in the 14-inning pool game that ended early Saturday morning. The fourth team in the “Stars” group, Hudson, is 0-3 and cannot advance.

Against Hudson, Post 2’s Sam Ovsak led off the bottom of the first with a single and moved to third on a wild pitch and a passed ball. After Charlie Kalbrener walked, Adam Leininger singled in Ovsak and Wyatt Kosidowski drove in Leininger with a two-out single. Jaxon Beiswenger drew a walk and Brady Manly followed with a two-run double to left-center field to make it 4-0.

Post 2 extended its lead to 7-0 in the third when Beiswenger led off with a single, took second on a bunt and moved to third when Landon Meier reached on an error. Beiswenger scored on a throwing error by Hudson on Meier’s stolen base attempt. Ovsak walked and stole second, and Connor Holm drove in Meier with a single through the right side. Ovsak later scored on Adam Leininger’s groundout.

The Post 2 races just kept coming. Ovsak drove in a run in the fourth inning, and after Hudson scored three runs in the fifth, Post 2 scored twice in the bottom of the inning on Wyatt Kosidowski’s two-run single. Ovsak made it 12-3 in the sixth with a two-run double.
