One lucky pup: Golden Doodle fell 70 feet off a cliff and lived to bark because of it

In Salmon Cove, Newfoundland, Canada, Joey the playful golden doodle was definitely one lucky pup. What started as a play date in a sheep pasture ended up as a heroic story of rescue and survival for the dog after he fell off a 70-foot cliff – straight up, mind you!

According to the Victoria Volunteer Fire Department’s Facebook page, Chief Justin Parsons explained how the dog accidentally walked into a section of a broken fence and fell onto the bank. Rescuers spotted the dog on a small section of rock below.

Joey probably fell into the water, which no doubt saved his life. The dog was then able to swim to the ledge. When firefighters arrived, they sent a zodiac boat to try to reach the dog, but faced the challenges of wind, changing tides and dangerous rock formations.

According to CBC News, Joey was a bit aggressive as the strangers approached him, and the crew had to use a grab pole to pull him to safety. Once in the boat, Joey realized he was being helped and held by his rescuers. Apart from a small cut on the dog’s forehead, the dog was unharmed. Now that’s a lucky chick!

Today crews responded to a dog that fell over a cliff in the Salmon Cove Eagles Trail area. VVFD and Salmon Cove Perry’s Cove FD searched the area and located the owner in the freshwater livestock pasture. After the scene was enlarged, the Harbor Grace FD was dispatched for a cold water rescue.

Joey the Golden Doodle has been rescued and is now safe with his owner.

Now that’s one lucky dog!
