Man City won the Community Shield but their kit stole the headlines.

A detail of Manchester City’s new home kit has come under fire following their Community Shield success.

Pep Guardiola’s side needed a penalty shoot-out to beat rivals Manchester United, who began their 2024/25 campaign with more products.

City had Bernardo Silva to thank for the extra-time equalizer after Alejandro Garnacho had opened the scoring for United.

Silva saved his penalty in the shootout but Ederson came to the rescue before Manuel Akanji scored the winner in a 7-6 win.

The Sky Blues begin their Premier League campaign with a trip to Stamford Bridge as they face Chelsea next weekend.

But their new home kit has attracted plenty of attention at Wembley Stadium, with the font used on the back of City’s blue shirts attracting criticism from fans online.

Although the font will not be used in the Premier League, supporters have questioned the club’s choice.

“Are City shirt names/numbers written in Comic Sans? She looks absolutely awful,” one fan wrote.

“The state of the font on the City shirt. 116 charges,” added another.

“Nine minutes into the new season and I’m annoyed by the font choice on the back of City’s shirts. Might need to pace myself here,” said another supporter.

“Still dumbfounded that an actual human adult approved the horrible font City are using this season, it’s giving me Comic Sans PTSD,” another angry fan wrote on X.

Labeled “tragic” and “awful”, it emerged that Noel Gallagher’s influence had something to do with the chosen font.

City unveiled their club font for next season earlier this summer and the handwriting on each shirt is that of the former Oasis guitarist.

Gallagher is, of course, a big City fan, but his last collaboration with the club did not go well.
