Major Kirksville water main break breaks out pickup window

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — A major water main break in Kirksville closed a section of North Marion Street for a time Sunday evening.

It happened at the corner of Marion and Hickory streets.

Kirksville police at the scene told KTVO that the leak started small with some water running down the edge of Marion Street, but then, after several minutes, it got a lot worse.

The force of the water shooting up out of the ground started eating away at the street, flinging chunks of asphalt and small rocks into the air.

The debris was clanging against the street sign next to the hole in the roadway.

The force of the gushing water was so great that it broke the driver’s side window out of a pickup truck parked in the line of fire.

Crews from the Kirksville Public Works Department were called to the scene and worked frantically to get the water shut off in that area.
