Sonia LeBel will introduce a bill on Tuesday aimed at expanding the powers of certain professionals

Treasury Board President Sonia LeBel will introduce a bill on Tuesday aimed at expanding the powers of certain professionals, such as pharmacists.

Ms. LeBel called journalists to a press conference, which will take place on Tuesday in the Evelyn-Dumas hall of the National Assembly, after the submission of the bill, at around 3:30 p.m.

According to Canadian media, the bill will aim to dust off the Professional Code, a long-standing demand from professional orders, particularly to improve the way things are done in health care.

For example, it would give more agility to pharmacists and authorize more health professionals to make mental health diagnoses based on the information obtained.

The objective is to “simplify the system” and “make health and professional services more accessible,” the minister’s office said in a press release on Monday.

The bill is being touted by sources as a “pretty major” first step in the reform announced by Ms. LeBel last fall. In total, 46 professional orders would be affected.
