Obituary of William Scott – The Marion Star

William (Bill) D. Scott, 73, of Marion, Ohio, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2024, surrounded by family.

He was born on May 31, 1951 to Harold and Mary L. Scott. He attended Marion Harding High School before entering the Marine Corps.

William married Mary Jo Scott on December 3, 1977 and together they enjoyed nearly 47 years of marriage. They liked going to gun shows and watching westerns. They spent a lot of time at Indian Lake fishing, boating, barbecuing and visiting family.

He was a member of the Meeker Sportsman Club and Fairpark Baptist Church. His family meant everything to him and he always told stories about family memories. He had a great sense of humor and always made the people he cared about laugh. Christmas was special to him, especially when Amanda was little. Together they made many special memories. William was always a protector of the people he loved. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed old rock and roll and blues music. William loved sharing his skills with loved ones, spending much time teaching people to shoot and fish, among many other outdoor hobbies.

William was always on the porch smoking a cigar with his dog, or out back shooting boxes of bb guns. He loved big dogs. His front porch became the community porch where all the neighbors and kids would hang out. He liked to teach his niece and great-grandchildren funny games that always got him into trouble; his favorites were spitballs and silverware.

He is preceded in death by his parents Harold and Mary L. Scott; and brother-in-law Paul Jenkins.

He is survived by his wife Mary Jo; his daughter Amanda; niece Mickala (Quentin) Mosher; great-grandsons Quentin Jr., Jaxon and Tobias; sister Sandy Jenkins; brothers John (Lisa) Scott and Terry (Jane) Scott; his beloved dog Thor; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Fairpark Community Baptist Church from 4:00-6:00 PM and the funeral service on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 11:00 AM with internment immediately following at Grand Cemetery Prairie.
