State police arrest Dexter man for arson

On Monday, June 3, 2024, at approximately 5:15 a.m., State Police at Watertown responded to a reported fire at 104 E Kirby Street in the Village of Dexter.

The investigation determined that Adam A. Stafford, 55, of Dexter, NY, approached the rear of an occupied parked vehicle and threw a flammable substance at it. Stafford then set fire to the vehicle. The victim was able to escape from the car without injury.

Stafford continued to flee on foot south toward Dexter Square located at 308 Brown Street. Stafford went to the east side of the building and poured a flammable substance on objects against the building and set them on fire. No injuries were reported.

Stafford was arrested for Arson 2nd (Class “B” Felony), 3rd Offense (Class “C” Felony), Reckless Endangerment 1st (Class “D” Felony). He was arraigned in Jefferson County CAP court and remanded to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 cash, $50,000 bond and $75,000 partially secured.
