Letter: Doug Burgum continues to undermine the US judicial system – InForum

Doug Burgum was at it again Sunday morning. He’s back on national television cheering on Donald Trump’s vile crusade to implement Project 2025 by first tearing down the American system.

It would be much easier – and safer – not to talk.

But not speaking out now seems downright unpatriotic, given the sinister threat inherent in Burgum’s reckless claims, both on “Face the Nation” on Sunday and last week in court in New York, where Trump was convicted of 34 felony charges. His inflammatory rhetoric included claims that the trial was a “rigged process” and “politically motivated” and a “weaponization of the system”.

Burgum was elected to serve and fairly represent all the people of North Dakota. Yet he chose to join a veritable clown show of similarly dressed fanatics who savagely denigrate the integrity of our justice system in order to enthrone a would-be dictator who in 2021 promoted a violent insurrection on live TV.

When Ben Franklin famously told a woman in 1787 that our new government would be “a republic if you can keep it,” I’m pretty sure he was emphasizing our duty as citizens to actively support the pillars of American democracy—don’t tear them down . for partisan gain.
