Karen Read murder trial to resume after nearly week break – Boston News, Weather, Sports

DEDHAM, MASS. (WHDH) – After nearly a week, the Karen Read murder trial will resume Monday.

Court was last in session on Tuesday, May 28, when the cross-examination of federal agent Brian Higgins ended and the prosecution called seven new witnesses.

Read faces second-degree murder charges after prosecutors say she ran over her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe, with her SUV and left him to die in a snowbank outside the home of Brian and Nicole Albert in Canton.

John O’Keefe’s niece and nephew testified after Higgins. Jurors then heard testimony from doctors and a former state police trooper who treated O’Keefe and evaluated Read on the morning of January 29, 2022.

Canton’s DPW superintendent and IT systems manager testified before court proceedings ended for the day.

Read’s defense said it went on record saying O’Keefe was beaten to death during a party at the Albert home.

Proceedings will be streamed live on whdh.com, the 7News app and the 7News Facebook page.
