Maryland sex offender wanted for murder arrested in West Virginia

U.S. Marshals captured a registered sex offender in West Virginia on Saturday who was wanted in connection with a murder in Maryland, according to law enforcement.

Emanuel Edward Sewell, 54, of Chevy Chase, Maryland, was pulled over while traveling westbound on Interstate 64 past the Hurricane exit. Authorities say he was wanted for second-degree murder after a parole officer was found dead Friday night following a scheduled visit to Sewell’s residence.

Commissioners say they received reports of a vehicle matching Sewell’s gray 2017 Hyundai Elantra.

Around 5:30 p.m., authorities attempted to pull the vehicle over, but it was unable to stop. The US Marshall had to force the suspect off the road. No injuries were reported in the pursuit.

Maryland initially issued a blue alert and asked for the public’s help in locating the suspect and warned that he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Sewell is being held at the Western Regional Jail without bond pending his extradition back to Maryland.
