Life pulls back the curtain The Life and Crime of Nicole Brown Simpson in the two-night docuseries event, making way for shocking revelations and a clearer picture of the tragic individual through first-hand interviews and more.

Featuring commentary from Nicole Brown Simpson’s sisters and closest friends, the four-episode docu-series reveals a new side to the OJ Simpson murder trial that shook the world in the mid-1990s. Below, we break down the most interesting tidbits from the series so far (we’ll update as the final two installments arrive on Lifetime starting Sunday, June 2).

First meeting Red Flag

In the premiere episode, Nicole’s former roommate Don LeBon recalls the night she and OJ Simpson first met. LeBon recalls seeing Nicole walk in with her jeans unzipped, causing her concern, but LeBon noted that Nicole brushed the situation off, claiming it was no big deal. This was the first hint of what would become a pattern of abusive interactions between the couple later on.

OJ’s transformation

An interview with Veredata Jones, the sister of OJ’s first wife Marguerite, revealed that the former couple’s relationship began when they were in high school, but eventually turned as OJ became famous. Veredata recalls that her sister was upset by his change of character and suffered abuse from the former athlete as their marriage fell apart.

Phone calls

OJ also reportedly called Nicole’s mother when they argued, complaining about Nicole directly to her family. But since anyone in the Brown family has shown concern, Nicole’s sisters say she will try to deflect from the situation.

Pressure during pregnancy

Nicole’s sister Denise pointed out that OJ would make comments about Nicole’s weight while she was pregnant, and another family friend, D’Anne Purcilly, corroborated his strange behavior during pregnancy as she noted that OJ she doesn’t want Nicole to have a natural birth, nor is she breastfeeding to maintain her body. Nicole made her compete with herself to try to maintain the body she had become accustomed to.

Drive-bys

When Nicole suspected OJ of cheating, Denise recalls helping her sister drive to potential mistresses’ houses to uncover secrets OJ may have been hiding from Nicole.

OJ’s homophobia

Family and friends also recalled an occasion during a family trip to Hawaii in 1988 when Nicole allowed a gay man to kiss her son, Justin, and OJ became visibly angry and abused verbally because of it. When Nicole pointed out that OJ’s father was gay, Denise says that Nicole showed up the next day wearing a long-sleeved shirt, suggesting that she paid for the remark with physical abuse.

Christmas Contest with Kris Jenner

Kris Jenner has opened up about her fast friendship with Nicole as she revealed they will compete when it comes to decorating their homes for Christmas.

Closing money

When it came to OJ, Nicole only spoke ill of him when he refused to provide for her children financially, according to her friends and family.

Knives out

D’Anne also brought up a conversation where Nicole expressed her fear of knives and how OJ had a collection of them. In the end, Nicole died after being cut by a knife, meaning her worst fear came true.
