DockHounds proposes fireworks after being turned down last year | Waukesha Co. News

OCONOMOWOC — The Lake Country DockHounds are hoping for better luck this year with a request to shoot off fireworks at Wisconsin Brewing Park.

The date the fireworks will be set off has not yet been set, but the Lake Country DockHounds, along with Sokol Exclusive Events, hope that with some thoughtful revisions, they can get city approval this year.

According to a city memo, one of those measures would be a “test session” in the next two weeks for the council to evaluate. The city’s full committee is set to discuss the proposal Tuesday, and if the body approves sending the item to council for action, it will set the date for the event sometime in July or August.

A letter to the city from Sokol Exclusive Events owner Matt Sokol said the filming location was moved slightly to better accommodate neighboring Ace Precision. Also, for the trial run, council members, immediate neighbors and fire department representatives would all be welcome to attend.

According to the letter, the major problem with last year’s proposal was Ace Precision’s concern about an oxygen tank and a rubber roof. Sokol said he spoke with Dave Eubanks at Ace Precision to discuss the company’s concerns.

“We are confident that another test shoot will be able to give our neighbors peace of mind and ensure that no material even comes close to reaching their building,” Sokol wrote.

In addition, the immediate neighbors of the stadium will be informed of the date and time of the fireworks display, if approved.

Also during Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting, a closed session will begin the meeting at 6:20 pm to address the Western Lakes Fire District inter-municipal agreement.

The common council to meet

The Common Council meeting is scheduled to follow Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., during which it will also go into closed session to discuss the city’s threatened litigation involving the properties at 131 and 139 N. Main St.

A mixed-use development called The Rockwell has been proposed for 125, 127 and 131 N. Main St. However, the council had a tie vote on a requested tax incremental financing plan for the project, with Mayor Robert Magnus voting against the tie. project on December 19. The developer, Rockwell Partners, has since opted not to move forward with the project and has filled the hole it dug where the buildings were knocked down with rocks and put up no-go signs.

The owner of 139 N. Main St., the M. Lange Company, did not sell to Rockwell Partners for the redevelopment.

In open session, the council will discuss and possibly act on an ordinance to waive extended closing hours for bars during the Republican National Convention (July 15-18).

The council could also award construction management to the Lac La Belle boat launch project.

Architecture Commission

On Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., the Architecture Commission will meet to consider and possibly approve four technology buildings located east of Fleet Farm on Pabst Farms Boulevard planned for the 59 Pabst project. In addition, the commission will under consideration and will eventually approve five residential buildings and a clubhouse east of Fleet Farm on Pabst Farms Boulevard.

The Planning Commission meeting would normally follow, but is canceled for Wednesday due to lack of agenda items.

All meetings are held at City Hall, 174 E. Wisconsin Ave.
