Caitlin Clark says ‘It is what it is’ in reaction to Chennedy Carter’s grievous mistake

On Saturday, Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter drilled a jumper in the third quarter against the Indiana Fever and then shouldered guard Caitlin Clark on the floor before the ball was inbounded:

After the Fever’s 71-70 win, Clark was asked about the game (with The Athletic’s James Boyd):

Carter was called for an offside foul (a personal foul). Clark got (and made) a free throw that ended up being a key bucket en route to the Fever’s one-point victory.

Carter did not comment on the issue when asked about it after the game.

Clark entered the WNBA as a two-time collegiate player of the year after breaking a number of records during her time at Iowa. She has spoken about the physicality of the professional game on numerous occasions, perhaps most notably last Wednesday.

“I think everyone is physical with me, they get away with things that maybe other people don’t get away with,” Clark told Chloe Peterson of the Indianapolis Star. “It’s tough, but that’s just the truth. This is a very physical game and you’re going to get pressure, that’s pro basketball. It is what it is, honestly.”

Clark echoed the ‘it is what it is’ song on Saturday, but in the end it came out victorious as the Fever picked up their first home win of the season.
