Kebryl Chandler was named the Class 1 Boys MVP

Parry McCluer High School’s Kebryl Chandler was named the boys track MVP of the VHSL Class 1 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which concluded Saturday at James Madison University.

He won both the 3,200 meters (10:03.54) and the 800 (2:00.16) on Saturday.

The Class 2 state meet also wrapped up Saturday at JMU.

The 5th grade meet ended Saturday in Newport News.

Here’s a look at Saturday’s action at those meets.

Class 1

Lancaster won the boys team title with 87.5 points. Parry McCluer was second with 67 points. Auburn was fourth. Narrows was ninth and Giles 10th.

Parry McCluer’s Kovyk Chandler won the boys 1,600 (4:23.17).

Auburn’s Talan Mower won the boys pole vault (12-0).

People read and…

The Narrows foursome of Carson Crigger, Tucker Bryan, Cooper Helvey and Aiden Tiller won the 4×400 relay (3:31.98).

Michael Little of Giles was third in both the 110 hurdles (16.00) and 300 hurdles (42.50).

Giles’ Aaron Miller took third in both the 400 (51.24) and 200 (23.17).

Parry McCluer’s Logan Wheelock was third in the 3,200 (10:07.12).

Fort Chiswell’s Layton Kennedy was third in the long jump (20-9 3/4).

Brunswick won the girls team title. Auburn was third. Chilhowie was seventh and Giles ninth.

Emily Edwards of Galax won the shot put (44-3 1/2).

Chilhowie’s Tess Somervell was second in the 400 (59.79) and 800 (2:26.49).

Auburn’s Kasey Rosenbaum was second in the 3,200 (12:07.55), with George Wythe’s Emma Faulkner third (12:18.55).

Giles’ Annaliese Miller took second in the 1,600 (5:31.83), with Rosenbaum third (5:35.93).

The Chilhowie quartet of Audrey Gilley, Kayman Atwell, Mady Heath and Somervell was second in the 4×400 relay (4:21.18), with the Auburn quartet of Gretchen Surface, Chloe Rorrer, Brooklyn Mikowicz and Katherine Light third (4: 22.75).

Rural Retreat’s Olivia Crigger was third in the 100 hurdles (16.62).

Auburn’s Megan Earnest was third in the high jump (5-0).

Class 2

Bruton won the boys team title with 59 points. Floyd County was second with 53.33 points.

Floyd County’s Mason Erchull won the boys 3,200 (9:20.32).

Glenvar’s Joey Loder was second in the boys 300 hurdles (40.30).

Radford’s Javiar Wade took third in the 200 (22.76).

The Floyd County quartet of Laquon Thompson, Jaxon Brewer, Drew Keith and Quinlan Beegle took third in the 4×400 relay (3:32.97).

Lee won the girls team crown with 71.5 points. Liberty was second with 66 points. Floyd County was third. Glenvar was ninth.

Floyd County’s foursome of Leah Altizer, Mia Spangler, Cadence Gray and Reagan Lynch won the girls 4×400 relay (4:12.92).

Liberty’s Brianna Adams won the 3,200 (11:50.37), with Liberty’s Mary Malcolm second (11:51.94) and Patrick County’s Sadie Martin third (11:52.71).

Adams took second in the 1,600 (5:25.22).

Liberty’s Natalee Powers was second in the 400 (1:00.44).

Lynch took second in the 800 (2:23.12) and Powers took third (2:23.43).

Liberty’s Shania Brown was second in the shot put (36-4).

Martinsville’s Rickyah Mitchell-Hairston was third in the 200 (26.62).

Class 5

Kecoughtan won the boys team title with 76 points. William Fleming was second with 39 points.

William Fleming’s Darren McCoy won the long jump (23-2 1/2).

Franklin County’s Tristan Wright won the 100 (10.57).

Franklin County’s foursome of Javeraih Holland, Gavin Hall, David Kasey and Wright won the 4×100 relay (41.84).

William Fleming’s Malachi Coleman took second in the 110 hurdles (14.18).

Lloyd C. Bird won the girls team crown.

Mills Godwin 6, Franklin County 0

Fourth-seeded and host Mills Godwin (17-6) defeated second-seeded Franklin County (18-5) in the Region 5C final on Friday.

Luke Smyers and Charlie Gunn teamed in a two-hit shutout.
