GCMS baseball finishes state tournament in fourth place

PEORIA – The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley varsity baseball team finished fourth in the IHSA Class 1A state tournament.

In Saturday’s third-place game, GCMS lost 3-0 to Jacksonville Routt.

Routt (34-7) scored all three of their runs in the fifth inning.

Jace Lautemann led off with an infield single, but was thrown out at second after Talon Thompson drew a walk. Dalton Brown singled to center field before Nolan Turner singled to right field to send Thompson home, Turner scored on a Bryson Mossman sacrifice fly and Conrad Carpentier singled to send Turner over home plate.

The Falcons (22-9-1) produced four hits and left six runners on base, with Brayden Elliott, Altin Nettleton, Isaiah Johnson and Addison Goodling each providing a hit.

On the mound, Elliott allowed three earned runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts over five innings. Graydon Leonard allowed no runs on no hits and no walks with four strikeouts over two innings.

For Routt, Carpentier struck out 10 batters and walked one while pitching the four-hit shutout.
